Duke of Edinburgh Award – Cheshire Border have received £121.25 from the Region Duke of Edinburgh Diamond Award fund. This can be given to members in our county who live in areas of deprivation, for help towards equipment for DofE, DofE Training or Walking Training which will be used for DofE.
Please note – Non-members who want to volunteer as part of their DofE;
If someone who isn’t a Girlguiding member wants to volunteer with us as part of their DofE, they must be at least 14 years old. Remember that they’ll need to be registered on GO as a ‘young external volunteer’. If they’re over the age of 18, they’ll need to go through our recruitment checks too.
DofE now allow participants to start in the school year in which the young person’s peer group turn fourteen so there may be young people who are under 14 years old requesting to start. Girlguiding do not currently allow them to until they are at least 14 years old.
Taster Hikes – There has been some interest in recommencing the County Taster Hikes which are overnight hikes for Guides aged 11 or 12. It offers the chance for them to experience an overnight hike without having to carry all their own equipment.
It is an excellent introduction for any girls considering taking part in Cheshire Hike, the Duke of Edinburgh award or anyone just wanting the chance to try a different experience.
Could you help plan this opportunity? Please contact Rachel Robinson for more information
